Caring for care leavers into Higher Education

​The course provides participants with an opportunity to refresh and extend their knowledge, skills and confidence in understanding and meeting the needs of care experienced people as they prepare for university / higher education.
​
The training is delivered by a care experienced trainer who will share their personal testimony regarding their journey through care into University and beyond. 
Who should attend?

Professionals from widening participation, accommodation, pastoral, and other related teams. 

Course Objectives
​
  • For participants to reflect on their own experiences of leaving home
  • To gain an understanding of the care and leaving care system
  • To fully understand the needs of young people and how best to support them as they prepare for and experience higher education
  • To understand the role of the foster carer and other professionals in the preparation and support of young people as they prepare for adulthood.
