Caring for care leavers

This course provides participants with an opportunity to refresh and extend their knowledge, skills and confidence in understanding and meeting the needs of young people as they prepare for adulthood and leaving care.
It has been developed from over ten years’ experience of working in the UK foster care sector, working with foster carers, children and young people. |
The course is delivered by a care experienced trainer who will share their personal testimony regarding their journey through care including the many challenges faced to leaving care.

- For participants to reflect on their own experiences of leaving home
- To fully understand the needs of young people as they prepare for adulthood and leaving care
- To understand how best to support young people as they prepare for adulthood
- To understand the lived experience of being a care experienced person
- To understand the role of the foster carer and other professionals in the preparation and support of young people as they prepare for adulthood
