Financial Assistance

We are keen to assist care experienced people in developing good budgeting and financial management skills so please do not hesitate to speak to one of our support workers in confidence.

IMPORTANT – Please read carefully before applying for financial assistance

  • As part of our charity’s responsible giving policy, we do need to verify your current or former care status therefore you will be required to give us details of who we can speak to regarding this, we will always act with sensitivity and in confidence.
  • Please also be aware that the Charity has a limited set of funds to award grants, we need to ensure that those who are in greatest need benefit from them.  Our dedicated support team are obliged to undertake a basic financial assessment of all applicants which may require applicants to submit copies of their bank statements.
  • To minimise cash payments we will always try to purchase the goods or services you need. Only in exceptional circumstances will we make cash payments and we then respectfully request that you let us have copies of the receipts from your purchases for our records.
  • If you are still eligible for support from the Local Authority Leaving Care Team then we will, wherever possible, help you to access that support where appropriate.
  • It is important that you read our Grant Making Policy, as, by requesting financial support, you are agreeing to the Charity’s Terms and Conditions.

Crisis Payments

We aim to help care experienced people who find they are in financial crisis, you can apply for a small crisis payment to help out in emergency for things like gas or electric and essential travel costs. And if short of food we can provide grocery gift vouchers.

To find out more about Crisis Payments, click here.

Grants

We may be able to help care experienced people with grants for other ‘essential’ items where no other support is available. We often help with grants for training courses to help care experienced people into employment.

Grants to support further and higher education (over £500)

Rees Foundation are keen to support grant applications from care experienced adults specifically to help with careers development and Higher Education where no other funding sources are available. We may help you with incidental costs whilst attending further or higher education, dependent on circumstances. They include (but are not limited to); equipment, materials and travel.

(Please note that it may take up to 12 weeks to process large grant applications and you will be asked to provide a high level of personal financial information as part of this process)
