Having a safe home, an income, loving and trusting relationships and good mental and physical health are the foundations of a happy life. The need for these foundations is universal, however, care experienced people can sometimes struggle to achieve these things due to childhood trauma and adversity.
Its important that people who have been in care have access to good quality support and are given opportunities to help them to thrive. Care shouldn't stop at 18... Rees Foundation is there to care and to provide ongoing advice support and opportunities, with no upper age limit to those we will help.
In 2020/21, 13,360 young people aged 16 and above left care*. The potential of these care experienced people is enormous. However, it is estimated that:

- 26% of the homeless population have care experience
- 24% of the prison population in England have spent time in care
- 41% of 19-21 year old care leavers are not in education, employment or training (NEET) compared to 12% of all other young people in the same age group
- Adults who were in care between 1971-2001 were 70% more likely to die prematurely than those who did not
