Course Objectives
- The legal framework for recruiting a staff member
- The recruitment process
- Shortlisting and how to carry out a robust sifting process that is free of discrimination
- Unconscious bias
- The interviewing process – how it is undertaken, which questions should and should never be asked, what notes to make
- How to select the right candidate, making sound decisions based on agreed criteria
- Second interviews
- Data Protection Act / GDPR, how to comply with legislation, avoiding common pitfalls e.g. subject access requests

- The purpose of interviews – the part interviews play in the recruitment process
- What makes a good interview?
- How to present yourself professionally as the interviewer
- How to put the interviewer at ease. What to do if the interviewee gets stuck – what can I do to help?
- How to give feedback about the interview to the candidate after the process
- Be aware of the potential legal ramifications that can occur within the recruitment process
- Be able to ensure objectivity, consistency, inclusivity and fairness in the recruitment and selection processes
- Understand the importance of Data Protection and what records should be retained and for what duration
