This course is for practitioners to better understand the purpose of life story work and how to implement that practice, with a focus on leaving care. Follow up workshops to consolidate practice and receive expert guidance.
The training has been developed by a pioneer and author in the field of “life story work”, working with children in foster care. This work has helped to give hundreds of children a sense of their own personal history. |

- Know what life story work is
- Understand why life story work is important, particularly for children
- To better understand the purpose and practice of life story work with a focus on leaving care
- Realise the possible effects of being denied the choice to access information on one’s history
- Learn how this may impact on identity formation and self-worth.
- Comprehend the significance of our roles in the lives of children
- Know the purpose of life story books, welcome books, memory books, etc
- Work towards developing a good practice model in line agency policies & procedures
